Emerging Adults & Students

“We had our 17 year old daughter take the Highlands Ability Battery when she was unfocused and unhappy. The results have given her and us a better appreciation of her abilities. This has improved her self esteem and an understanding of the need to nurture some of what we'd previously neglected, especially her artistic inclinations.” - Parent of high school senior

The high school, post high school, college years and the twenties can be frustrating for many parents and young adults. What is a good match for a major? Is a 4 year college after high school the right choice? What are options for an undirected young adult?

The benefit of assessments is that it gives parents and students a roadmap for making good choices for further education.

Why would a parent have a high school or college student tested?

  • To see what abilities the student has and how those might be translated into possible career possibilities
  • Lack of direction
  • Unable to decide on a major
  • Dissatisfaction with college or high school classes
  • More clarity choosing an appropriate college or alternative program

What is Young Adult Career Sampler?

This assessment is one that looks at a student's abilities— the student's permanent set of talents. The test is available on the Internet and takes about 3 1/2 hours to complete. A 25-page report is available along with a 2 hour feedback conference, and a personalized report.

The sampler consists of 3 assessments taken online:

The Highlands Ability Battery: This assessment is one that looks at a student's abilities—the student's permanent set of talents and takes about 3 ½ hours to complete. Information can be learned about innate talents and how they translate into choosing a college, careers, artistic and musical abilities, optimal work situation, and learning styles.

The Myers Briggs (MBTI) is a test taken on the Internet that takes about 30 minutes that reveals information about a person's personality and temperament and valuable information on good career fits.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII) is an assessment that reveals information about a person's interests and how it correlates with other people with similar interests. It takes about 30 minutes to complete and each person receives a 10 page computerized report with different college major suggestions, volunteer activities, career suggestions, and fields to explore.

Included in this package are 2 hours of coaching, a report with each assessment, and a customized report for the young adult with suggestions for college selection or career choices.

“For high school students, you offer a wonderful package that gives guidance for both understanding our children's abilities and interests.” LM, parent of high school children, 6/05

What is in the follow-up conference?

  • A description of how the young adult learns best.
  • An explanation of the student's natural abilities.
  • A description of the type of work and learning environment most conducive to success and satisfaction.
